London: Hidden Interiors has 180 examples which have been selected from a complete range of building types to convey the richness and diversity of London’s architectural heritage, and the secrets that lie within. Each has had to earn its place, and most deserve much greater coverage than can be accorded here. The selection is an entirely personal one. It concentrates generally on the buildings and interiors that are less well known and to which the public are not normally allowed access – the hidden and the unusual, the quirky and the eccentric, although there is space too for some of the better known. After the German airstrikes during WWII destroyed many buildings in London, a concerted effort was made to preserve historic buildings and places. This gorgeous book captures the interiors of 180 different places throughout London, mostly private buildings or areas with restricted public access. Examples include the ornate ceilings and floors of Freemason’s Hall; the decaying walls and stairs of an abandoned subway station in Kingsway; and the regal dining hall of the Charterhouse monastery, where Sir Thomas More found retreat in 1499. There is also a peek inside Lloyd’s of London and the Ministry of Defence. Each entry has a descriptive narrative and two to four pages of brilliant color photographs—1,700 photographs in all. About the Author
As a chartered town planner, historian and international expert in heritage conservation, Philip Davies has been in the forefront of managing change to London’s most important historic buildings and places for over 35 years, most recently as the Planning and Development Director for London and South-East England at English Heritage. He is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries, a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, a Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society and a Trustee of the Heritage of London Trust. Philip’s most recent books Lost London 1870-1945 and Panoramas of Lost London (both also available from Welcome Rain) were published to huge acclaim.

With over 40 years experience Derek Kendall is one of the most talented and respected Architectural and Fine Art photographers of his time. With his intimate knowledge of London’s built heritage and an exceptional eye for detail, Derek’s pictures have graced the pages of over 60 publications.

It is amazing that some of these large and, seemingly, little-used now spaces have been
kept up so well. It is a book for pleasurable browsing.

The topic and the sources are very interesting, but the book is unfortunately not well written. The structure of the paragraphs and of the chapters is extremely monotone (maybe the translator has a part in this?).

Culture Adaptations and Jewish Motherhood

The thesis of this book is that medieval Jewish Ashkanazi groups living in northern France and Germany were affected by the Christian communities and culture in which they lived (as one might expect), although they adapted such influences in ways suitable to their own religious sensitivies. One example of this effect is the increase of restrictions upon women in the 12th and 13th centuries. The focus on women as mothers allows the author to explore areas formerly quite thinly covered.

The documentation in the notes is impressive; the bibliography is extensive, providing the usual citations as well as European and Hebrew sources. The heuristic and pedological device of telling what you are going to do, doing it, and saying what you have done made the introductory, interim, and concluding comments to each chapter seem rather mechanical and somewhat stilted. A bit more editorial assistance to eliminate repeated use of words such as "quotidian" would also have been helpful, but taken as a whole, the book is well organized and well written, holding one's interest to the very end. I would emphatically recommend this book.

This extremely advanced book opened both eyes and minds around the world. It inspired hundreds, if not thousands, to pursue rocket science, engineering, and technology. Wernher von Braun was deeply influenced by Goddard's treatise, as were Willy Ley, Theodore von Kármán, William Pickering, James Van Allen, Charles Lindbergh, Henry "Hap" Arnold, Herman Oberth, and Fritz Lang. Even the Wright Brothers studied Goddard's incredible text. An important (and hard-to-find) document, "A Method of Reaching Extreme Altitudes" covers both theory and practice. First Dr. Goddard explains, in simple terms, the math involved (it's really not too advanced, even for a high school student to understand). He then goes on to calculate the minimum speed to leave the Earth's gravity. It's a "must have" for the library of every serious rocket scientist, engineer, and technician. A legend in the making.

My true review would be around 3.5 stars. I just got done finished reading the book so it is still fresh in my memory.

First of all, I believe Robbie Reyes is a really cool addition to the Marvel Universe who definitely needs to be explored more. Felipe Smith has done a really great job creating a fresh new character with different dynamics and problems.

The first volume of All-New Ghost Rider was in my opinion some really great work, a really hard tough act to follow; so it's understandable that this one was lackluster compared to the first.

The story is basically a follow up to the first volume, nothing new is really present except for the fact *SPOILERS* Dr. Zero has upgraded his pill. *END SPOILERS* Same enemies save for the fact that a new villain (who can be seen as a victim) has turned up.

The pacing is just like the races depicted in this book, fast and lucrative. Though at times it does slow down at appropriate times to give us some exposition.

The art is a big reason why my review dropped a little bit. The first volume had amazing art and Scott just can't really match what Moore did in the first volume. Sometimes it seems so jumbled and cramped at times you don't really know what's going on. Thank goodness for Smith taking over the art in the last two issues. There are some really great splash pages that I was staring at for minutes at a time.

All in all, it was a fun read that doesn't seem to take itself too seriously, but really faults itself for not concentrating on ideas they were trying to implement too late into the game. Hopefully after Secret Wars is over they will be able to expand on the life of Robbie Reyes and the All-New Ghost Rider.

I recommend this series to anyone new to comics who is ...

I recommend this series to anyone new to comics who is looking to get into marvel books. I read loads of comics and I have to say this comic has a really strong story, and it is impossible to put down. Now, the reason I did not give more stars is because of a personal issue: the art is ugly. I personally like the new Ghost Rider design (it grew on me) but as for everything else it is a train wreak of what I can only describe as "tattoo art." However the story by its self made me stick around and I was pleased to see the art take a more pleasant aesthetic in the last issue, I sincerely hope the keep the artist they used on the last issue of the volume for the rest of the series.

good, but cannot recommend it.

This is a really good book. I will say that. However, I cannot in good conscience suggest it. Why? Because in the time since its been out, the author has written numerous other books, starting another for (possibly as many as six) series'. It leads me to believe she loves to start new ones, but not finish them. That being the case, this author has lost my interest. Now, if you don't mind getting a book that is good, but an incomplete story, then by all means, purchase it. BUT I thought it only fair to say something, as I had been avidly watching the new releases of Me. Phoenix.
For those offended that I would post this.. all I can say is that it's honest and straight forward which is supposed to be the purpose of a review.

Yum!!! HUGE Sons of Judgment fan!

I just finished reading this book, overall I think it took me about 10 hours from "cover" to "cover". Why? Because it was AWESOME!!!

Octavian is a Caster, a judge of sorts for Creatures of the Veil. One of the 3 rules passed down from Heaven is to never touch a human. Then in walks Riley and oops, he couldn't keep his hands off her. They are drawn to each other like a moth to a flame, they can't seem to stay away and fall for each other quickly. Everything is stacked against them it seems and just when something gets worked out, another HUGE kink in their plans and lives happen. Both of them are willing to risk anything, except each other, to save the lives of the other. In the background, there's a war brewing between Demons and Angels and it seems the two of them are caught right in the middle, along with Octavian's family and anyone else they love.

I loved this story. I couldn't believe the twists and turns it had and would be almost gasping for air as I read about their fight for survival. I was shocked beyond words when learning of "what" Octavian and his family are. I did NOT see that surprise coming. I loved the humor and the wit throughout the book. I was laughing so much through this book at the one liners and sarcastic remarks. And the romance, while there was some sexy parts, they weren't too horrible that someone who didn't want to read them, couldn't skip over them. I just have to say that the parts I read were pretty tastefully done and steamy.

My favorite parts of the book? Octavian's banter with his brothers. The twins absolutely cracked me up to no end. I loved the way his parents treated each other...with reverence and love. Daphne was a very welcomed surprise. I couldn't quit figure out her story, hadn't guessed it, until it was revealed, but I thoroughly enjoyed her part in the story. Honestly though, I can't remember a "favorite part" because I enjoyed the entire book and would end up quoting it in its entirety. Ugh, now to wait for book 2!!!

Wow. Just wow. First of all, the beginning of this book showed such promise - I was so excited for this story to unfold. Then, a quarter of the way through the book (which was about 200 pages, this is the longest book ever) the spelling and grammatical errors began - at one point there was one page where I counted 7 errors! It made it so difficult to read. In addition to that, the story itself did not connect, I felt like there was a lot of setting up for this grand reveal and then it was over and anticlimactic. And don't even get me started on when Octavian and Riley FINALLY sleep together (90% through) - worst scene ever. I only finished this book because I wasted so much time reading the rest of it!! I skipped through a lot because it was so repetitive - not reading the second one!

Very enjoyable!

Enjoyed it very much! Just wished like with a lot of books that the ending would given a little bit more. When they reunited that was it just riding off to continue their life. Which is fine but after spending 2 months apart not knowing how the other was, some extra dialogue would have given it 5 stars.
I am also wishing the author would give Niall a happy ending. He just up and vanishes in the end and you never know what happened to him. That was very unfulfilling for me and left me empty on that score.

Love the Brides!

the second story of the brides, Maire's story is exciting and wonderful! The conflict and suspense is awesome! truly a great read! I really was happy this book was about her. Having a disability in those times was most of the time a death sentence, but loving family and the strength she shows during troubling times is uplifting. Love conquerors!

Excellent Story!

I love Miriam Minger! I'm working my way through all of her books. This is the Third book that I have read by her. I reccomend that you read Wild Angel BEFORE you read this book. This is the sequel to Wild Angel and reading that one first helps Alot with character development. I love the way Minger writes, everything is very intense. I could not put this book down! The heroine Maire appears timid in the book, but if you read the first book you have the knowledge that she just learned to walk for the first time since childhood two years prior and had been very sickly. Both her brothers were extremely over-protective of her because of this and She had just begun to gain a sense of freedom when she is captured by a group of Normans. She ends up being given to a Norman Baron (A very interesting and heated moment in the book I might add!). Again, I strongly suggest to anyone interested in reading this Book to read Wild Angel first, save yourself the confusion! Both are excellent books, you wont regret it! My only somewhat negative thought about the book was, WHAT HAPPENS TO NIALL? Maire's Brother? And where is his book dang it! lol:)
