Very convoluted, difficult to make connections

First off, I am somewhat uncomfortable giving a negative review to a Bible Study of all things. We are blessed by those who feel called to take on such an important and daunting task. I have been in a Bible study with the same group of women, from different denominational backgrounds, for several years and this is the first study that we unanimously do not like. It took us until Week 4 to voice our opinions and learn that almost all of us consulted other sources to help the study make sense. The book itself is extremely hard to follow and doesn't sync with the DVD. The big points/themes that can and should be made are lost in a puddle of irrelevant questions and stories. The sermon to the Hebrews was to "look forward, not back. Christ is superior and sufficient...." So what questions do you find in the study? "Which translation of the Bible do you prefer and why?" or "How would you paraphrase Psalm 110:1 into a book or movie title?" The author makes the key points but the illustrations she uses are feeble. Rather than go further, my advice is to get your hands on a book and read through it before you decide. Also, find someone like-minded in your bible community that may have already done the study and seek out their constructive opinion.

Extrememly Dissappointed

I could not "force" myself to get through this study.
It was a group study done with new people and I hated to drop out, but!!!

It is full of personal stories, except for two pages each week there was no learning to
be found.
I know she is capable of so much more then tons of laughs and phycology 101!

I went back to Beth Moore where I learn tons. Try her if you want to learn about the Bible
Lisa save the laughs for Women Of Faith conferences!

I could not recommend this for any Christian new or seasoned!

Hate to write a bad review, but have to.

While I did pick up a fe things from this study. The group I am in all agree, that maybe if it wasn't just six weeks long, she could have packed it more with applicable things. I have to say, just finishing, that I don't know how much I really learned from this. Not that it was a waste of time. But the questions asked in the homework were weird and hard to answer. I loved her funny stories in the homework and the videos. But I did lose respect for her when she started shortening disciples names to "Pete" and talking about him texting the other disciples and making a Starbucks run. Really? Either call him Simon or Peter, his NAMES! The games she does at the beginning of the videos would have been better had she given the people calling out the answers the microphone so we could hear what the answer was. We are Beth Moore junkies in our group and do at least one of her studies a year. Then we switch it up and do someone different. We love Jennifer Rothschild, Priscilla Shrier, but none of the group really care enough for this to do another one of hers, which is sad, as this could have been better. And we expected more out of a Lifeway Bible study.

About the Author

The author, Lucius Vitellius Triarius, aka Chip Hatcher, is a Graduate (cum Laude) in Political Science, focusing in Ancient Mediterranean Political Systems, from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and resides in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains in Eastern Tennessee.

He is also a member of Nova Roma (www.novaroma.org), the global Roman Reconstruction project, advocating the via Romana, or Roman Way, where he serves as a Provincial Governor and Senator of Nova Roma.

The Roman Way is the study and practical application of "Romanitas" and the "mos maiorum", the revival of all aspects of Roman life, culture, virtues, ethics and philosophies in our everyday lives.

It is as part of the mos maiorum that citizens are expected to take up Roman names for use within the society. Learning Latin, the language of Roman culture, is also an equally important step towards becoming a modern Roman.

One of the cornerstones of Romanitas are the Roman virtues; those qualities which define the ideal state of being and behavior of the Roman citizen. These age old precepts guided the Roman Republic for centuries, and after being somewhat forgotten in the technology, hustle, and bustle of the modern age, are finding their way back into the hearts, minds, and homes of many people today. They are the foundation of a good and wholesome society, and should be consistently used to further advance the knowledge, behavior and ethics of our children and succeeding generations.

He believes that we must remember and preserve the good parts of the past in the present, so that others will remember it in the future.

A god upon a great white throne, with cherubim and seraphim bowing before him, may have power and dignity, but for comfort and good-fellowship one must go to the god who sits by the fire, inhales the odor of spice, and the flavor of the bread and the cake and the meat that are cooking in the kitchen. Such a god can understand the tribulations of the cook and the annoyances of the mistress; he knows by experience that fire burns and ginger is hot in the mouth. All other religion is cold and formal beside this intimate religion of the hearth.

Only buy if you /must/ have a book

It was alright. Like the review said before, I was disappointed when I opened the book and found most information was copy to copy from the Nova Roma site. Has some helpful insights even so and there's some information you will not find anywhere else. Honestly, I'd only get it if it conveniences you to have a physical book of the information regarding Religio Romana.

This is my fourth book on Event Planning. There are some books that have too much detail while others are just superficial. Conference Management & Event Planning by Nainil and Monil Chheda seems to be a good book for those that want to start an Event Planning Career in their organization and have little to no knowledge in the field. The book also talks about hiring Event Planning Services which helps companies in sourcing services from the experts. Event Management can be a very broad topic with a lot of variations. I would recommend this book to the beginners.

I am very impressed with this book; it's sophisticated and detailed but also written in a manner that is easy to understand for the not-so-competent such as myself. I am not saying this to undermine it's credibility at all, there's a wide variety of information that many people could learn from, regardless of their experience planning and what kind of events they plan.

It's not the longest book in the world but the author makes good use of every single page with a 'no-filler, no-fluff' style of writing. I can definitely say that I learned more from this one book than the previous 2 that I read on the same topic. If you're looking to save time and find a no-nonsense kind of book then I think this book may be right for you

I brought this book to research Newport Beach in the early 1900's. It is full of pictures and interesting tidbits. Very happy to have it.
